after our little adventure in granite gorge we made our way to the waterfall circuit in the atherton tablelands and one of the biggest fig trees in queensland – the curtain fig tree!
when driving through queensland one can’t not notice the beautiful trees with what seems like many endless roots that are coming down from the branches, making them look a little bit eerie, but at the same time very old and impressive. and not to mention, D was obsessed with them, so i have so many photos of different fig trees that i could write a separate post only about them. but i won’t, you’re welcome ^^
the next stop was the beautiful waterfall circuit – a road, that connects 3 beautiful waterfalls – the millaa millaa falls, zillie and ellinjaa. and they are all just a short car ride away from each other!
the millaa millaa falls were the first ones we visited and the most popular ones – the apparent setting of a herbal essences commercial and many others ;) and you can even swim in it! but be prepared, it’s quite cold!
then we went to the zillie and ellinjaa falls and they were, in my humble opinion, even more beautiful than millaa millaa – and definitely less touristy. they are a little bit harder to reach than millaa millaa and thus less crowded. for me, these waterfalls are really mesmerising. i could just sit in front of them, hours on end and watch the water come down in the perfect manor it does – a perfect place for meditation. :)
after all of the waterfall fun, we got hungry and drove to the nearby creamery – mungalli creek dairy! this part of queensland is called atherton tablelands and has a high percentage of rainfall throughout the year. driving through the tablelands was one of our favourite parts of the queensland road – green, lush hills as far as your eye can go and all kinds of cows just minding their own business.
oh and did i mention, the tablelands are famous for their milk and cheese production, so the logical step for us was to go to the mungalli creek dairy and order their biggest cheese tasting platter – just a cherry on top of the already perfect day! there is a little shop inside of the creamery where they sell local produce like soaps, tea and much more. they also make an awesome cheesecake – do not miss out on that one!
so, i hope i made you very hungry now ;) and i hope you enjoyed this as much as i did!
