the next stop on our australian north-east coast trip was the mossman gorge! a beautiful part of the world heritage listed daintree national park. the walk through the forest is really the easiest “track” we did during the whole of our trip in queensland. and there are a couple of spots that are just made for swimming! so do not forget your bathing suit, because if you do you will definitely be tempted to go skinny dipping thinking no one will see you in that particular secluded part of the rainforest. but a whole family with kids will walk in on you :) believe me.
after our adventures in mossman gorge we went up to port douglas for the night and were lucky enough to make it in time for one of the final games of australian rules football – which seems more like no-rules-no-protection-rugby ^^ but it’s well worth watching! it’s a lot of fun and the atmosphere in the bar is absolutely crazy! we watched it in the central hotel and i must say, the food was pretty good too! :)
and if you’re around during the weekend do not miss the port douglas markets! so many yummy stuff to try! we went for a fresh coconut that you first get to drink and then they cut it in half and scrape the flesh, before putting some bananas and honey in one half, and a savoury salad in the other one! have you ever tried a savoury coconut salad? it’s really not bad! :)
on the way to our next destination, just a little outside port douglas beside the highway there’s this place with a vast number of stone piles which just look amazing! especially with the sea in the background! unfortunately, the stone piles don’t have a special, magical meaning (or so says google). but the interesting fact is that every time a storm knocks the piles down, people come and put them back up!
hope you enjoyed it! :)
