the whitsunday islands – a white pearl on the australia’s east coast! the islands are literally untouched, so it is nature in it’s purest form.
if you wish to visit the whitsunday islands, you have to book a cruise. there are many options that you can choose from when choosing the right cruise, from one day ones to multiple days, cheap or very luxurious, where you can stay in resorts nearby, or ones where you just sleep on the boat. we went for a one day cruise (because of my horrible motion sickness) and we chose camira for it – and did not regret it! the team was very friendly and competent and there was unlimited food and drinks on board. although there were a lot of people on the boat, it didn’t feel crowded and everything was superbly organised.
the starting point of the cruise is a little town called airlie beach, where there’s also an airport, so you could also fly in ;)
and because you are sailing between all the little islands, the sea is mostly very calm – which for me, was a huge plus. i could enjoy the views without worrying about getting sick! ^^
we went snorkelling, which was optional, but a definite must! :)
the absolute highlight of the cruise was the stop at the whitehaven beach, which with the beautiful white silica sand and calm, crystal clear water was to die for.
and an interesting fact – the white silica sand makes a squeaky noise when you walk through it! the sand is also called “singing sand” and a number of conditions have to come together in order for the sand to “sing”. Some of those are that the sand has to contain silica and the sand grains have to be 0,1-0,5mm in diameter.
but aside with the “singing sand”, it is purely divine. and it’s no wonder that whitsunday islands’ beaches are always voted as one of the most beautiful in the world.
i hope you enjoyed this post :)
